About this Giving Opportunity

About Ms. Foundation for Women

The Ms. Foundation for Women works to build women’s collective power in the United States by investing in, and strengthening, the capacity of women-led movements to advance meaningful social, cultural, and economic change. Ms. Foundation brings attention to the real challenges facing women, especially women of color and low-income women who are living in poverty, working paycheck to paycheck or both. They tirelessly advocate for national and statewide policy change that will address these challenges, and support more than 100 organizations throughout the country that are working for change on a grassroots level.

About the Project

The project supports the Ms. Foundation’s Reproductive Justice Program, consisting of the Birth Justice Project, the Build the Fire Indigenous Women’s Reproductive Justice Fund, and Ms. South. Together, these initiatives aim to strengthen the reproductive justice movement in the United States by mobilizing funding and resources to grassroots organizing and policy change efforts led by Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) communities.

The Birth Justice Project focuses on addressing reproductive health disparities that disproportionately impact Black individuals during childbirth. From policy advocacy and education to alternative birthing centers, detention centers, and sterilization, the project's national scope prioritizes the Midwest, South, and U.S. territories, regions with limited birth justice resources.

The Build the Fire Indigenous Women's Reproductive Justice Fund aims to establish philanthropic support for Indigenous reproductive justice movements. By networking with Indigenous leaders and allies, the fund will create a new ecosystem to support movement building, with a goal of doubling current philanthropic investments in Indigenous women's leadership over the next four years.

Ms. South focuses on supporting women and girls of color engaged in intersectional movement building work in the U.S. South, specifically within the context of reproductive justice. This initiative addresses the lack of per capita philanthropic support for women and girls of color in the region. The Ms. South portfolio provides multi-year general operating support and capacity building opportunities to grantees, along with advocating for increased support from other national foundations.

Together, the Ms. Foundation's Reproductive Justice Program is led by experienced individuals who bring deep expertise in birth justice, Indigenous rights, and philanthropy. Through these initiatives, the Ms. Foundation aims to advance reproductive justice for BIPOC communities and combat systemic inequities in reproductive healthcare and rights.
