EvaLab is conceived by the EVA Social Cooperative, a women's organization active in gender policies. Since 1999 EVA has been carrying out initiatives in the region of Campania, south of Italy, aimed at promoting women's rights and freedom, preventing and combating male violence, supporting women’s empowerment and strengthening their role in society.
To date, EVA manages 5 anti-violence centres and 3 shelter homes for the protection of women survivors of violence, victims of trafficking, refugees and asylum seekers. Moreover, EVA works in close relationship with a network of local and national stakeholders, including the relevant public institutions, universities, research and training centres, third sector organizations, non-profit and profit enterprises.
EvaLab is an ethical fashion atelier that pursues a social aim coupled with environmental sustainability, promotion of legality, and local development in a context of high socio-economic and cultural deprivation.
Now the EVA cooperative would like to expand the lab by moving it to another confiscated property, which would only need to be arranged and set up.
EvaLab has a number of objectives:
- to support the economic independence and employment of women survivors of violence;
- to overturn the narrative of women victims of violence by showing their strength and capacity for redemption;
- to enhance the use of confiscated assets and re-purpose them for social purposes;
- to realize a good practice of social, circular, sustainable economy;
- to promote products of excellence with a high ethical value.
In detail, with this year's project EvaLab focuses in upgrading the setup/equipment, hiring more women in training internships and strengthening its marketing activities.
