Support UNICEF's Response to Flooding in Libya

UNICEF USA

On Sunday, September 10, Storm Daniel made landfall in Libya, with strong winds and sudden heavy rainfall affecting several northeastern areas of the country (Benghazi, Tobruk, Toukra, Talmeitha, Almarj, Taknes (Al Jabal Al Akhdar), Al Owailia, Bayada, Albayda, Shahhat, Sousa, and Derna). The storm has reportedly led to significant infrastructure damage, including damage to road networks, disrupted the telecommunications network, and caused the displacement of at least 410 families. Many individuals who were previously displaced by conflict are currently sheltering in schools in Benghazi.

UNICEF is already on the ground, mobilizing 1,100 hygiene kits & vital medical supplies for 10,000 people, and providing essential clothing kits for 500 children. Flexible funding is currently vital to reach children with the services they need. Families impacted by the flooding face compounding needs as they cope with the backdrop of a complex sociopolitical landscape and conflict since 2011. UNICEF Libya requires $28.6 million to support vulnerable communities with child protection, social protection, water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH), and education services this year. More than 90 percent of the appeal remains unfunded.

With your support, UNICEF will continue this life-saving work across Libya, and ensure children and families affected by the recent floods receive critical supplies and care.
