A local artist can give young people a place to create, someone they trust, and skills they can carry into their lives. Artolution invests in these artists and the support they need to keep showing up for their communities.
Founded in 2016, Artolution is a U.S.-based nonprofit working with refugee, displaced, and marginalized communities internationally and in the United States. We train, mentor, and employ local Teaching Artists, including artists living in refugee camps, to lead collaborative programs rooted in their communities’ experiences and priorities.
Children, young people, and adults create community murals, tell stories, make music, perform, and explore digital art and design. Participants help shape the work, developing ideas together and making decisions about how their communities are represented. Regular creative sessions support self-expression, learning, social connection, and mental wellbeing.
For Teaching Artists, this work also provides paid opportunities, professional development, and experience as mentors and community leaders. Training combines creative practice with trauma-informed facilitation and approaches that help people from different backgrounds participate together.
In 2025:
• 4,694 people participated directly in Artolution programs across 23 countries.
• 122 artists and facilitators led programs.
• 43 new artists were certified through Artolution training programs.
Our work includes sustained programs with Rohingya communities in Bangladesh, refugee communities in Uganda and Jordan, children and youth in Kibera, Kenya, and communities across the United States.
Your donation helps sustain locally led programming, artist pay, materials, training, and the coordination that makes consistent participation possible. Flexible support allows Artolution to respond to needs identified by country teams, deepen artists’ skills, and prepare programs to reach additional communities.
Give through your workplace, check whether your employer offers matching gifts, or invite colleagues to support Artolution together. Your support helps local artists continue teaching, creating, and leading where they live.
