Brazil Emergency Relief

efter UNICEF USA

Since the collapse of a dam on December 23rd, 2021, 163 municipalities have reported an emergency state in Bahia, Brazil. There are estimated to be 815,597 people suffering from the consequences of the floods: houses, schools, hospitals and other infrastructures which have been destroyed and damaged. There are more than 101,256 people in need, as sanitary conditions are severely compromised, increasing the risk of disease outbreaks. Schools are being used as shelters, which jeopardizes the safe return to education, in addition to disrupting mental health among children and adolescents.

Your support will help UNICEF to provide the following lifesaving services for women and children in Brazil:

• Sanitation, Nutrition and Child Protection services for 20,000 most vulnerable children and families in shelters
• Emergency cash transfers to around 6,100 most vulnerable families
• Technical support for coordination, information management and response to government and partners to ensure a child-focused and inclusive response to displaced families
• Advocacy for child-friendly services, safe return to school, and prevention of COVID-19 and other diseases that affect children

Please consider making a gift to support our emergency relief fund for children and families in Brazil. Thank you for joining UNICEF USA to protect every child’s right to survive and thrive.
